Karun Chandhok sets his eyes on Formula One

New Delhi: It's mid year break in the European race car circuits and India's export to GP2 Karun Chandhok is back home for a while.

When asked what his plans are during the two-week long break, Chandhok replies, "It is nice to have couple of weeks off. I have been training, cycling and just catching up with friends and family. So it is pretty good."

Chandhok also revealed that he liked rock music and comedy movies..

"I am big rock fan… old school. I like Bon Jovi stuff. I am an old Bon Jovi fan. Otherwise like Killers and Kings of Lyon as well," says Chandhok.

"Generally comedy stuff. I saw the Hangover Day yesterday and it was brilliant... couldn't stop laughing," he says when asked about his love for movies.

But it's what he does on the racing circuit that makes Chandhok India's great racing hope.

After Formula One, GP2 is the toughest race car series around. Former Formula One champions like Lewis Hamilton and Timo Glock have raced in GP2 and in this tough field Chandhok has been holding his own finishing on the podium only last week at Silverstone.

"I think we have been really unlucky this season until now. Leading in Monaco and Istanbul I feel we deserved a couple of podiums. So finally to get the monkey off our backs at Silverstone was some relief rather than anything else," he says.

But GP2 is not Formula One. It may be the feeder series for the big league but Chandhok is not satisfied and he wants to compete with the big boys.

"Formula One if the ultimate dream. Of course that's where every driver wants to be but it is a very complicated and complex business. Ideally i'd like to be in Formula One next year," he hopes.

Next up is the German GP2, a race he won last year.
