Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday gave a go ahead for catching stray dogs in the state and sterilising them. The court has asked the local body to intensify the sterilisation process.
The court was giving the verdict to several petitions that urged the removal of stray dogs from the streets. The court said that a situation where stray dogs become a threat to human life should be avoided.
The petitions were filed in view of a increase in dog bite cases in the state.
Advocate Basil Attipetti in his petition had asked for the removal of stray dogs from public places. The petitions also sought government interference to end the stray dog menace. Some petitions also sought for culling of stray dogs.
There was one petition which sought criminal action against the secretaries of local bodies if dog culling has happened.
