Ex-minister charged with inciting mobs during 2002 Gujarat riots case.

Ahmedabad: The bail hearing of former minister in the Narendra Modi government Maya Kodnani and an accused in 2002 riot cases was Thursday adjourned by the sessions court here till May 18.

This was the third adjournment granted in the case by the court since filing of the bail plea last month.

Kodnani is accused in the Naroda Patiya and Naroda Gam cases in which 106 people were killed by a mob on February 28, 2002.

When the matter came up for hearing in the court of Judge A K Aswani onThursday, Kodnani's lawyer requested time to obtain court orders in which the accused with similar charges have been given bail in 2002 riot cases.

The court granted request of Kodnani's lawyer after the public prosecutor too did not object to the request, and adjourned the matter till May 18.

Supreme court appointed special investigation team (SIT), probing some of the riot cases has filed chargesheet against Kodnani in connection with the Naroda Gam and Naroda Patiya cases early this month.

Kodnani has been booked under Indian Penal Code 120 (B) for criminal conspiracy, 302 for murder, 307 for attempt to murder, 395 and 397 for loot and 143 to 147 for rioting and 201 for destruction of evidence. Kodnani is in jail since March 27, after the Gujarat High Court cancelled her anticipatory bail granted by a sessions court.
