ALAPPUZHA: It’s time for movie buffs to cheer up. The Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) is getting ready to set up multiplexes in all the district headquarters in the state. Alappuzha will get KSFDC’s first four-theatre multiplex, a single platform that will cater to movie buffs and shoppers alike. The KSFDC has identified land in Wayanad for its second multiplex and it will soon roll out a detailed project report to begin the work. The construction work of the multiplex in Alappuzha will commence soon. The KSFDC owns 75 cents of land in the heart of Alappuzha town. The corporation has already completed all the paper works in this connection. The expected cost of the project is Rs 15 crore. It will have a vast shopping complex, food courts and parking area.KSFDC MD Sanjeev Kumar Patjoshi has already visited the site in Alappuzha as part of starting the work. The KSFDC MD told Express that the corporation is set to kick off multiplexes in all the district headquarters. “We have identified lands in Alappuzha and Wayanad. Efforts are on to identify land in all the other districts. If we cannot identify  land in the headquarters in districts like Ernakulam, we will set it up on the periphery of the headquarters,’’ Sanjeev Kumar said.“The theatres, equipped with the latest technology, are expected to generate a good revenue for the corporation as multiplexes make money from not only box-office collections but also from allied services such as parking areas and food courts. It will give fresh energy to filmmakers and viewers alike. The KSFDC owns seven big screen theatres in the state and all of them are generating a good profit,” he said. “Our new effort will be a boost to tinseldom. We will also exhibit in the multiplexes the films which have bagged national and various other prestigious film awards. The number of viewers in big screen theatres is declining and multiplex is gaining momentum in all parts of the country. So, all our future theatre projects will be multiplexes,” he said.
