BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) in collaboration with various industries, plans to implement ‘Green Nurturing,’ an initiative to maintain over 5,000 schools across the state."Industries will join hands as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) to implement this programme. They will provide solar lights, drinking water and toilet facilities and encourage students to adopt eco-friendly habits in their lifestyle,” KSPCB chairman AS Sadashivaiah said.The Board had conducted a pilot project in Mysore last year, and it was successfully implemented in 150 schools. The drive aimed to create awareness about ecological balance.Also, programmes like conducting quiz, plantation drives, educating students  about medicinal plants and encouraging them to grow vegetables on their school premises, will be incorporated in the event.In the last five years, students from 750 schools across the state have been trained on environmental protection. The department allocates `1 crore for various awareness programmes. “Booklets, training material, documentaries and audio-visual aid will be distributed as part of the process,” Sadashivaiah added. KSPBC is also taking help from women organisations to create awareness among homemakers to curb plastic menace in the state.A two-day workshop on ‘Women’s Role in Protecting Environment’ will be held on April 7 and 8 on Veterinary University campus.
