BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is seeking senior advocates’ assistance to vacate the stay order, which Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Ltd (NICE) had procured from the High Court, after Palike accused it of encroaching on a storm water drain near Gali Anjaneya temple. In a reply to a query by BBMP JD(S) leader Padmanabha Reddy, Commissioner Siddaiah said that in his inspection, they got to know that NICE had encroached on a storm water drain, which is next to Gali Anjaneya temple.NICE had raised pillars to build its arm-round connectivity, for the Bangalore- Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project.Siddaiah said that in 2002, the then Engineer- in-Chief had given approval, with a condition that the construction works should not interrupt water flow from Vrushabavathi.Siddaiah further said that because of this, there was flood which affected the temple premises.“Before we could take any further action, NICE approached the Court and brought a stay.We know the entire problem.Additional Chief Secretary has also called us for meeting. We are also in touch with the senior advocates. We are trying to vacate the stay and take necessary action,” he said.At present, de-silting of Vrushabavathi is going on in full swing.Yediyur councillor N R Ramesh blamed the revenue department officials for misleading the Palike. He said that as per the BBMP records, there are only 390 hospitals in Bangalore, which are paying around Rs 9.85 crore tax every year. But as per the list furnished by Ramki and Maradi companies, which dispose bio-medical waste in Bangalore, there are 2,446 hospitals in Bangalore.“If we collect tax from these hospitals, our revenue will increase by at least 10 times the present revenue from hospitals,” he said.Answering his query, Siddaiah said that BBMP has constituted eight teams under Deputy Commissioner (revenue).“Teams are doing the remaining 30 per cent property verification. They (teams) will check commercial properties and include hospitals, wedding halls and other properties which have not been included. We will include all the remaining commercial properties in next four months,” he said.Counter attack■ Jakkasandra Councillor Ashwathamma demanded Congress councillor Manjunath Reddy apologise for humiliating her in the last council. The latter had criticised Ashwathamma for being clueless about what is happening in her ward.Udayshankar had put a black cloth garland on her. This had created chaos in the council.Later Mayor intervened and instructed to withdraw those lines from the record and council continued.■ Ganesh Mandir councillor from Congress, Govindraju said that `2 crore has been allotted for his ward in the recent budget, which according to him is not enough to clean “Congress grass” (parthenium plants). This had resulted in BJP councillors ridiculing the councillor over his party.Govindraju, who soon realised his mistake, replied that public would clean BJP grass very soon.■ Okalipura councillor Queen Elizabeth said that though there is “Queen” in her name, grants alloted to her ward is very less.Siddaiah replied that if grants were alloted based on the names, everyone would have changed their names to get more funds.■ Sarvajnanagar MLA George who also presented that the name is creating confusion as there is a ward by the name “Sarvajnanagar”.
