Mumbai: Mumbai police is in search of a group of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants who escaped when they were intercepted by police near Aurangabad on Tuesday.
An Indica car, in which the militants escaped, was found abandoned near Nasik on Thursday night, Anti-terrorist Squad chief, Mumbai Police, K P Raghuvanshi said on Friday.
The LeT suspects were travelling together in two four wheelers when ATS intercepted them near Aurangabad on Tuesday morning, some 350 km from Mumbai, he said.
Police succeeded in nabbing three LeT suspects travelling in one of the four wheelers and seized 10 AK-47, 30 kg of RDX, 2000 rounds and 40 magazines from them.
However, those travelling in the Indica managed to flee. "We suspect they were also carrying arms and explosives," Raghuvanshi said.
The ATS suspects that after abandoning the vehicle near Nasik, LeT cadre may have gone into hiding in nearby areas or had fled across the state.
