Life term for wife killer confirmed

CHENNAI: A division bench of the Madras High Court has confirmed the life imprisonment awarded by a lower court to Karuppasamy alias Ramalingam of Kovanur village in Villupuram district, who murdered his wife in 2008.“The accused has been rightly found guilty under Sec 302 of the IPC (murder) by the trial court and it has rightly sentenced him to life imprisonment,” the Bench said on Wednesday.Ramalingam, a wayward, married Valarmathi in 2002 and they had two sons. He, a jobless man, doubted the fidelity of his wife and often quarrelled with her. On March 29, 2008, he cut the throat of Valarmathi, which resulted in her death instantaneously. He was arrested on March 31, 2008. The Principal Sessions Judge, Villupuram, sentenced him to life imprisonment on November 6, 2009. Challenging this, Ramalingam preferred the present criminal appeal, which was dismissed by the Madras High Court.
