CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the Mylapore police to register a case on a complaint from a 74-year-old pawnbroker alleging that the police had taken 203.73 grams of gold jewels pledged by various persons with him, under the guise of seizure. The court gave the direction last week while disposing of a petition from G Rikhabchand Jain of Triplicane. According to the petitioner, in March 2009, some persons claiming to be policemen visited his shop and informed him that they had arrested an accused who had said he had pledged jewels with Jain. Following this, the Mylapore police seized 203.73 grams of gold jewels from his shop.
