Maa Dhandagiri Sarovar: Bundelkhand's Eternal Pond That Never Dries Up
This pond is located on a hillock about 3 km from Barigarh.

Even though there is drought in the Bundelkhand region, there is a pond in Chhatarpur district which never dries up. During times of low rainfall and dryness, this pond is always full of water. It is known as Maa Dhandagiri Sarovar and its secret is a centre of attraction for people.

This pond is located on a hillock about 3 km from Barigarh. A random social worker Abhishek Chaurasia told Local 18 that he has never seen this pond dry, no matter how hot the weather is. For the last four years, drought-like conditions have prevailed. Despite this, this pond has never been empty.

About 15 years ago, when a Tehsil official’s wish came true, he tried to drain the water of the pond with the help of the village to clean the temple. For this purpose, seven engines of 5 horsepower each were installed, but the more water was drained, the more the pond filled up again. This process continued for a month, but it proved impossible to empty the pond.

Popular belief says this pond is connected to the underworld and never dries up, thanks to the blessings of Lord Maa Dhandagiri. This pond is believed to be from the Chandela period and its amazing feature is a matter of faith for people.

People who have visited this pond say that they have never seen it dry. For generations, people have heard that this pond is blessed by Maa Dhandhagiri and it is filled with water in all weathers.

The mysterious history of this pond and its feature of never drying up makes it one of the most amazing and faith-inspiring places in Bundelkhand.

Similarly, the Pinsaria pond, situated 28 kilometres away from Nagaur in Rajasthan, has provided water for animals and birds. In the past, it was a breeding ground for storks due to its favourable conditions. Nowadays, storks no longer frequent the area. Instead, the pond now serves as a refuge for various other bird species and wildlife. Omprakash Bhati, a resident, shared that this pond was constructed by the Banjara community five centuries ago.
