Madurai: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday directed police to register a case against the Director of Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Union Kani Kumar, and take appropriate action including arresting him in a cheating case.
Justice N Kirubakaran, disposing of a petition filed by one Albert Alias Selvaraj, said "cognizable offence had been made out against the director, who had allegedly collected Rs 10,000 from the petitioner assuring him that a house site, meant for Dalits at Nilakottai taluk, would be allotted to him. He neither allotted the site nor gave back the money, the petitioner said.
The Special Tahsildhar's report revealed that house site which the director had promised to allot to the petitioner had been allotted ten years ago. "Hence, it is appropriate to direct the inspector of Ammayanaickanoor police in Dindigul district to register the complaint against the proposed accused and take appropriate action including arrest of the accused," the judge said.
According to the petitioner, the government had acquired land in Kullakundu village at Nilakottai taluk in Dindigul to allot it to Dalits. The allotment was done by the Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Co-operative Societies's director.
Though Kumar received Rs 10,000 towards allotment of the land from many people he did not allot it to them including the petitioner,it was alleged.
