BHUBANESWAR: A local court on Saturday granted Mancheswar Police three-day remand of Khirod Mallick, brother of former minister Pramila Mallick.During the remand period, police are likely to grill Mallick, who runs an NGO Biswa, over his alleged role in the last month’s firing on call centre employee Namita Rani Padhi at Mancheswar.Mallick’s driver and four others were earlier arrested by the police in connection with the incident but the former minister’s brother had not been named in the case, but his name came up during the investigation process.He had appeared before the court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class on Thursday after the Orissa High Court asked him to move his bail petition before the lower court in connection with the Mancheswar firing case.While he was granted bail in that case, City Police had submitted a prayer before the court seeking an upgradation of a charge against him in an earlier case of acid attack on an elderly person leading to his judicial remand.Youth held for rape: A 27-year-old youth was arrested from Mumbai in connection with abduction and rape of a minor girl. Milan Jena had allegedly taken the girl to Mumbai where he was staying with his uncle under Wasai Police limits.The girl, a student of a City college, is apparently four-month pregnant. Jena has been charged with abduction and rape while his uncle Rohit Das, who drives autorickshaw in Mumbai, is accused of sheltering him.The accused as well as the victim were sent for medical examination by the Mahila Police.
