A simple, lovable film, Octubre makes you believe in miracles

A simple, small film, Octubre is directed by brothers Daniel Vega and Diego Vega. This Peruvian film is set in Lima, the capital of the country. The film subtly deals with the perils of loneliness and how a human being puts his or her defenses up when faced with loneliness.

Even though the theme of the film could be depressing, it actually is not. October is the purple month, the month of miracle in Lima, when the devoted throng to the city, dressed in purple robe.

The Protagonist of the film, Clemente is a money lender who doesn’t let emotions ruin anything for him. Everything for him is a transaction, including his sexual life, which involves him visiting prostitutes and paying them for their services.

Clemente’s life changes when he is suddenly burdened with the responsibility of an infant. Clemente is forced to live with a middle aged woman to look after the child. Their lives change but Clemente is not ready to accept the pleasant changes that his life is offering.

Even though a dark film, it keeps you smiling as each character of the film come across as vulnerable, emotional and endearing. And the portrayal of loneliness is something that each of us is well aware of. Fantastic performances and sharp direction.
