New Delhi: The Manila Police District has filed criminal charges against hostage taker Armando Ducat Jr. The charges include illegal detention, child abuse and illegal possession of firearms and explosives.

Ducat had on Wednesday taken 32 pre-schoolers hostage inside a tourist bus in Ermita, Manila.

He demanded better facilities for the daycare he runs for poor children. Ducat set them free after the presidential office gave him a guarantee it would do that.

Ducat apologised for his conduct but said he had no regrets as his wishes had been fulfilled.

The website Manila Bulletin Online quoted Manila Mayor Lito Atienza as saying, "No amount of good intentions can justify what he (Ducat) did, and he must face the consequences of his acts."

He added that Ducat had committed similar stunts before the 1992 and 2004 elections.

What's your reaction?
