VISAKHAPATNAM: Suspected left wing extremists of Galikonda area committee gunned down a tribal youth Killo Haribabu (27) at Nimmalagondhi village of Koyyuru mandal in the district on Friday night, suspecting him to be a police informer. Around 10 to 15 extremists were involved in the incident.Sources said Haribabu, a resident of Nimmagondhi village was a former militia member of the banned CPI (Maoists).He however, left the outfit and reportedly joined the police department and worked as a Home Guard for some time. After some time he got married and was engaged in agriculture work at Nimmalagondhi village.On Friday night, a group of Maoists went to Nimmalagondhi village and forcibly took Haribabu and his father Subbarao to a praja court.They tortured the duo and declared Haribabu as a traitor. Following repeated requests by the family members, Maoists let off Subbarao but fired at Haribabu killing him on the spot.This is the third such incident in this year.Leftwing extremists had gunned down a 52yearold forest ranger Majji Madhava Rao, who along with his team of seven persons were inspecting Lankapakalu coffee plantations in GK Veedhi mandal in the district on September 28 this year.Rebels also killed two tribals suspecting them to be police informers at GK Veedhi mandal on November 27 this year.Notwithstanding combing operations in Visakhapatnam agency areas, the Maoists continue to terrorise tribals.
