New Delhi: The ugly head of match-fixing has emerged again as an internal West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) investigation into fixing charges against all-rounder Marlon Samuels stated that it has found enough evidence to charge him with misconduct.
According to well-placed sources in the WICB, the matter has now been also referred to a disciplinary committee that will conduct a hearing as soon as possible.
Samuels has already been notified of the WICB decision to bring formal charges and has been given copies of all the relevant documentation.
"He has been charged and the matter referred to the disciplinary committee," WICB spokesperson Tony Deyal was quoted as saying by caribbeancricket.com.
The Jamaican right-hander was in the limelight in January 2007, when Nagpur Police claimed they had concrete evidence that Samuels exchanged information on the team before the Nagpur One-Day International with a bookie Mukesh Kochhar who was also linked to the underworld.
The allegations led to the International Cricket Council asking the WICB to conduct an investigation.
Earlier this week, 27-year-old Samuels was suspended from bowling in international cricket after independent analysis of his bowling action revealed that his off-break and fast deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under regulations.
He was reported by the umpires following the third Test between South Africa and West Indies in January.
