New Delhi: With no sign of abatement of the crisis in Iraq, the Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday said that it has provided tickets to 500 Indian nationals in Iraq to facilitate their return home.
MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said, "We are using facilities available through Indian community welfare fund to enable their safe return."
The MEA also assured that the nurses from Kerala stuck in Tikrit are safe and efforts are continuously being made to evacuate them from the war torn country.
The al-Qaeda breakaway group that has seized much of northeastern Syria and huge tracts of neighboring Iraq formally declared the establishment of a new Islamic state on Sunday and demanded allegiance from Muslims worldwide.
MEA also reacted strongly on the recently surfaced allegation by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden that the United States was snooping on the BJP.
"We have already communicated to the US government. If such intrusions have been authorised, then it is highly objectionable," said Akbaruddin. He also added that the Indian government is waiting for US' response on this issue.
