Ignoring the demand of the family of victim in Mohanlalganj case for increasing the compensation to Rs 25 lakh, the Uttar Pradesh government has issued a cheque of Rs 10 lakh for the children of the 35-year-old widow who was found brutally murdered last month.
District Magistrate Sharad Kumar Singh on Sunday said it has been informed that a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh has been released and the money should be deposited as fixed deposit in the Gauribazar branch of Punjab National Bank.
He said the cheque will be received in two-three days after which it will be deposited in the bank.
The family members of the woman, who staged dharna in the state capital for several days, had been demanding that the financial assistance announced by the state government be hiked from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
It was one of the main demands of the family members, besides seeking a CBI probe in the case.
Meanwhile, father of the victim expressed disappointment over the government not increasing the compensation amount.
He, however, said the children are minor now and so the amount should be fixed deposited for at least 15 years so that it cannot be misutilised.
The victim had two children-- an 11-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.
He said the kids are at present living with their uncle.
