BANGALORE: If you are still soaking up the monsoon showers then here is more for Bangaloreans. According to the Met department reports, increase in rainfall is expected.
Speaking to Express, B Puttanna, director, Bangalore Meteorological Centre, said, "Under the influence of this upper air cyclonic circulation blowing over northwest Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area is likely to form, which is a favourable condition for the increase in rainfall, particularly over south interior and north interior Karnataka and also coastal Karnataka."In addition, heavy rainfall is also expected over moist isolated Karnataka. He said, "As per our recordings, there has been scanty or normal rainfall over interior and coastal Karnataka. Since the cyclonic circulation is extending as high as 7.6 km above sea level, it is expected to bring about heavy rainfall around these areas which would be beneficial for the crops."

However, with the onset of monsoon, starting from June, the average rainfall across the state has been fairly good with about two per cent more than the normal.

Meanwhile, explaining about the prevailing weather in the state, particularly with Bangalore, he said, "Due to the low strong wind and cloud coverage, the temperature has been cooler in the city. Additionally, due to the southwesterly monsoon and presence of Western Ghats, more rainfall about 50-60 cms is common in Coastal Karnataka mainly around Uttar Kannada, Dakshin Kannada, Udupi, Madikeri, Chikamangalur, Shimoga and Hassan."
