CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu’s Higher Education Minister, P Palaniappan, awarded diplomas to the graduates of MOP Vaishnav College for Women, at the 16th Graduation Day ceremony of the institution at Kamaraj Arangam on Monday. With 100 per cent pass percentage in seven undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and 108 students placing in the top 10 University ranks, the college has also produced 29 first ranks. Thirty percent of the top 30 ranks are from MOP Vaishnav. Eight courses had pass percentages above 95 per cent.Speaking at the occasion, Minister Palaniappan said, “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. Where women are venerated, there peace is assured. We need strong independent women like the graduates of this college.” He also exhorted them to be physically fit and not live sedentary lifestyles, which many are prone to settle into.Palaniappan reminded the gathering of the promises made by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, regarding laptops and power supply. “The state’s vision is to generate economic activity and improve quality of life. People will not need to go to other states or countries for employment. Our Government will create opportunities by letting in many industries,” he said. The Chief Minister has also said that Vision 2025 would be introduced shortly, said the Minister.Dr K Nirmala Prasad, Principal of MOP Vaishnav, presented her report through a documentary made by the students of the college’s School of Media. This covered the various aspects of the college, highlighting the clubs, practice school, NAAC accreditation, autonomy, NCC, sports, scholarships and placement cell. The rank holders at the university and college level were awarded and the Minister also distributed endowment prizes.
