VELLORE: In a daring incident of daylight robbery, motorcyclists sprinkled chilli powder on a petrol bunk employee and looted Rs 6.86 lakh cash, on Monday. The incident on the national highway near Vaniyambadi has created a flutter in the locality.Sources said, Ravi (45), an accountant in a petrol bunk near Vaniyambadi was on his way to deposit the collection money in a bank in Vaniyambadi. Two persons wearing monkey-caps followed him and near Nekkundi on the NH they sprinkled chilli powder on Ravi, snatched the money and sped away. Passersby, who witnessed the incident alerted the highway ambulance. Based on a complaint filed by him, police are on the lookout for the culprits. It may be recalled that on Thursday last week, a Chennai based collection executive Abdul Azeez, was attacked by a trio at the railway station in Vaniyambadi and looted ` 17 lakh cash from him.Stolen Cement-Laden Truck TracedAn auto-mechanic, who stole a truck laden with 17 tonnes of cement bags, was arrested by Gudiyattam police on Sunday. Driver Premkumar (27) was transporting the truck with 340 cement bags to Tambaram in Chennai from Karnataka on October 17. He parked the truck at Cherlapalli village in front of the truck owner’s house from where it was stolen. On Sunday night, a police team intercepted a youth who came on a motorcycle. Later during questioning, Jaishankar (30), of Melparavakkal, reportedly confessed that he had stolen the truck. He said he had hidden it a forest area. Jaishankar was later remanded.Detonators, Gelatin Sticks Seized Hundred detonators and gelatin sticks were seized from a tractor near Tirupathur on Monday. Tirupathur taluk police, who were involved in the inspection near Tirupathur, stopped a tractor for inquiry. While checking the vehicle, they found 100 detonators and 100 gelatine sticks, which were seized. Kuppan (60) of Koratti and Santhosham (35) of Thoranampathi — were arrested.
