MoU not must for construction: CM

BHUBANESWAR: Faced with criticism from the Opposition for land acquisition and infrastructure development for the Posco’s steel project even after expiry of the MoU with the Korean steel major, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday said MoU is not a prerequisite for setting up an industry."I would like to mention here that an MoU is not compulsory for taking up construction in connection with the establishment of an industry,” he said replying to a debate on an adjournment motion in the Assembly.MoU is a facilitating instrument. Hence, constructions at Posco site need not wait for the renewal of the MoU, Naveen said and claimed construction activities have been taken up in the State by many industries without signing MoUs.
