JHARSUGUDA: In a startling revelation a murder accused has sent his proxy to Jharsuguda sub-jail. The incident came to light on Tuesday evening when rumours doing the rounds in the sub-jail came true that instead of the original accused Purushottam Naik, his proxy Shankar Dhurua landed in the sub-jail.This triggered departmental action against two erring policemen and an inquiry into the whole episode by a DSP-rank officer.Preliminary investigation revealed that Purushottam Naik and another Jibardhan Majhi were wanted in connection with a murder case that took place on May 2. Naik was arrested on Tuesday and produced in the court of SDJM by Kulabira police. After Naik’s bail petition was rejected, he with the help of a lawyer and two police escorts successfully conspired to send Shankar to jail in place of Naik. Shankar has reportedly been paid ` 10,000 for the forgery and assured of early release.Jharsuguda SP KS Kawar said that departmental action had been initiated against escorts Havildar NN Kalo and constable BK Pradhan and hinted at the possible arrest of the lawyer, who allegedly masterminded the incident.A police team led by Jharsuguda SDPO Fagua Singh on Wednesday reached the sub-jail and inquired into all aspects of the unique incident. Efforts are also on to nab Naik.Naik and eight others are accused in the murder of one Jitendra Naik following a group clash on May 2 during a Palli Sabha meeting under Kulabira police limits.
