Murshidabad Woman Dies Minutes After Husband's Demise, Doctors Call It A Psychological Heartbreak
The late couple had three children - one son, Anant Mondal and two daughters, Putul and Buri, who were married.

A lady named Niyati Mondal (68), hailing from the Bholta village, Bharatpur Police Station area, Murshidabad, West Bengal, died 3 minutes after her husband Swami Shankar Mondal (85)’s death. According to Local 18 Bengal, this lady was crying over her husband’s body, keeping her head over his chest, when she stopped responding after some time. Seeing Niyati silent, the villagers tried calling her name and then realised that she was no more and collapsed beside her husband’s body. Natives of the Bholta village are shocked after this incident. The late couple had three children – one son, Anant Mondal and two daughters, Putul and Buri, who got married a long time back. All the natives of the Bholta village enjoyed a cordial relationship with Niyati and Swami Shankar Mondal. The children in this village used to refer to them as their grandparents.

According to the family of the deceased couple, Niyati and Swami Shankar Mondal got married about five decades ago. They enjoyed having a great time but Shankar Mondal grew ill with age and was suffering from respiratory ailments for a long time. A few days ago, he was admitted to Bharatpur Rural Hospital in Bharatpur, Murshidabad for treatment. His health showed no signs of improvement. He also became bedridden after returning home from the hospital. He died at around 08:30 PM on July 23 after spending about six days in a bedridden state.

A doctor of the village confirmed the death of the couple by checking their pulse. According to him, Niyati died because she couldn’t cope with her husband’s demise. The villagers, both the young and the old people, observed a moment of silence for the couple. A neighbour, Sadhana Mandal, said Niyati and Shankar Mondal used to eat and go to the field together. They also went to the temple and took the cow for grazing together. Sadhana recalled that even while staying at home, the two did not sit very far apart.

Both Niyati and Shankar Mondal were cremated together.
