New Delhi: A ten-year-old list containing names of athletes – some of who are top stars from the 1980s and 1990s - reported to have tested positive in dope tests conducted at a non-accredited laboratory has been ordered to be released by a National Anti-Doping Disciplinary (NADA) panel, according to a national newspaper.
The Hindu carried a report that a petition filed by Sunita Godara, which seeks to re-open old cases in excess of 500 had been approved, following a 2009 Delhi High Court order, to determine whether there in fact had been doping and if the cases were correctly handled by the authorities.
The panel, headed by senior advocate Sudhir Nandrajog, stressed on what it perceived as “grey areas” pertaining to the old cases. Nandrajog ruled that Godara could go through the yet-to-be-made-public list.
The list had been submitted to the court in sealed covers by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and in turn, nine years later, again in sealed covers to the disciplinary panel by the High Court. Godara was requested to reveal any missing names at the next hearing.
The panel, which also includes hockey Olympian Ashok Kumar and Dr NK Khadiya, has asked NADA to co-ordinate with the SAI in completing the missing links in the reports. The case was adjourned to December 23.
