NAGAPATTINAM: Cyclonic storm Thane left a trail of devastation in Nagapattinam district on Friday. Banana plantations bore the brunt of the gusty winds accompanied by heavy rains as hundreds of trees were uprooted. Electric posts were damaged and power was on the blink since Thursday night.Sea water entered coastal hamlets in Sirkazhi, Tarangambadi and Nagapattinam areas. Pazhayaru, Pudupettai, Vanagiri, Chinnagudi, Thirumullaivasal and Akkaraipettai hamlets are still waterlogged. People of those areas were evacuated to places of safety. Boats anchored in the coastal areas have been damaged as they dashed against each other due to strong winds.Traffic was disrupted along the Nagapattinam - Chidambaram and Sirkazhi - Mayiladuthurai routes. Thousands of acres of samba crops were damaged.Accompanied by District Collector T Munusamy, flood monitoring officer Atul Anand visited various areas that were affected.
