Minister for Public Works V K Ebrahim Kunju has said in a press release that the maintenance work of the National Highways in the state will commence in the next two days.
The funds for this will be made available from the Centre also, he said. The repair work will begin first on the Cherthala-Karunagappally stretch of NH 66. The renovation of the 18 km road from Krishnapuram to Harippad will be completed at a cost of Rs 13.72 crore.
A sum of Rs 206 crore has been allocated for the stretch between Harippad and Cherthala. The state government has requested the Centre to sanction Rs 21.1 crore for the renovation work of the 28-km stretch between Harippad and Karuvatta and from Purakkad to Athirapally, the minister said.
A high-power committee meeting chaired by the minister has decided to set aside special funds for the renovation of roads damaged in the rains.
