CHENNAI: Advocate A Navaneethakrishnan has been appointed as the new Advocate-General of the Madras High Court.He replaces PS Raman, who had resigned following change in the government, last week. Hitherto, Navaneetha krishnan has been defending AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate wealth case (now pending before a special court in Bengalaru), non-filing of wealth tax returns and the `2-crore gift cases.Navaneethakrishnan (54) is a native of Ponnappur West village, Orathanadu taluk in Thanjavur district. He had held the posts of Special Public Prosecutor at the Special Courts under NDPS and EC Acts at Thanjavur (during 1991-96), Additional Public Prosecutor at the Madras HC (2001-04), member, TN Public Service Commission (2004-08).He had also represented the CM’s close associate N Sasikala’s FERA case and appeared before Justice KP Sivasubramanian panel appointed by the previous DMK government to enquire into the alleged land grabbing at Sirudhavur village near Chennai, on behalf of the land owners.Three new AAGsThree new Additional Advocate-Generals (AAGs) have been appointed, two to the Madras HC and one to its Bench at Madurai on May 23. They are: VS Sethuraman-I, S Gomathi Nayagam-II and K Chellapandian-III.Sethuraman (62), native of Vinnamangalam, Thanjavur, is the president of the AIADMK Advocates Wing. He had also held the posts of Additional Government Pleader (Forest) during 1991-94 and Special GP (Forest) in 2001-06. Gomathi Nayagam (53) is a native of Piranoor, Tirunelveli. He had held the posts of Special Government Pleader, Special Public Prosecutor and Public Prosecutor, during earlier AIADMK regimes.K Chellapandian, designated as a senior advocate in 2005, was born in Ellayaram Pannai, Virudhunagar in 1947. He was Additional Public Prosecutor, Madurai Bench (2004 to 2006).
