CHENNAI: Scratching your head wondering by when the cooking gas cylinder in your kitchen will go empty and so that you can arrange a replacement on standby? Relax. Help is at hand. All you have to do is to replace your gas regulator with a new one — Multi Function LPG Regulator (MFR). Besides specifying the gas level, the MFR has enhanced safety features.Bharat Petroleum (Bharat Gas) recently launched the product in Chennai. Other oil marketing companies, Indian Oil (Indane) and Hindustan Petroleum (HP Gas), intend to do an encore shortly in Chennai and in the rest of Tamil Nadu in a phased manner.According to an Indian Oil spokesperson, the enhanced safety features of the MFR include gas level indicator, child safety lock, excessive gas flow check valve, leak detector and a flow restart plunger. The gas level indicator would tell you whether the cylinder is full, low or needs a refill. The child lock mechanism would restrict the knob movement and prevent the switch from turning on.The excessive flow check valve gets activated and shuts the gas cylinder if the flow crosses a threshold limit. Excessive flow might occur due to various reasons, including regulator failure and ruptured hose. The MFR indicator would give an alert if there is a leak, the IOC spokesperson said.According to Bharat Gas territory manager A Ramana Kumar, 1600 MFRs have been sold in the city. “The consumer feedback is encouraging. We hope more and more users will opt for MFRs.” The MFRs have also been recently launched in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
