No CBI probe in Kavita case: UP CM
Mulayam Singh Yadav has said that handing the Kavita Rani murder case over to the CBI will serve no purpose.

Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has ruled out a CBI probe in the Kavita Rani murder case. He has however said, that no minister in his government will be spared if found guilty.

"The case will not be handed over to the CBI as it will not serve the purpose, but if involvement of any minister is proved in the case, then he will not be spared", Mulayam told PTI.

Mulayam was at Bamania in the tribal district of Jhabua where he was paying his tribute to noted socialist leader Mama Baaleshwar Dayal on his eighth death anniversary.

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday declared that Kavita Rani - a lecturer at Meerut's Chaudhary Charan Singh University - was murdered over sharing of booty and for blackmailing of a former state minister.

The police had held a press conference on Monday where a man called Ravindra Pradhan confessed to murdering Kavita. Pradhan alleged Kavita was troubling him for a higher share in the Rs 35 lakh they had blackmailed former state irrigation minister Meerajuddin into giving them.

Pradhan alleged that Meerajuddin, a leader of the Rashtriya Lok Dal, was captured on camera in a compromising position in his bedroom in Lucknow.

Twenty-nine year old Kavita was a lecturer at the Lalit Kala Department of the Chaudhary Charan Singh University and had disappeared on October 23.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Food Processing and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Babulal resigned from the Mulayam Singh Yadav Ministry on Tuesday following reports linking him to Kavita's murder.
