BANGALORE: Demanding that excess land of 1,330 acres given to NICE company be taken back and distributed to farmers, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) President Puttannaiah has said that his organisation would launch "Take Back Our Land" agitation shortly if the State Government does not mount pressure on the promoters of BMIC to complete the 111km road.
"About 6,999 acres of land was acquired way back in 1994 which means about 17 years ago. Not a single kilometre of road has been laid for the reasons best known to the State Government and the project promoter. While the farmers, whose lands have been acquired, cannot grow anything there, neither they have been paid compensation in full nor can they sell their land. It is like a trishanku kind of situation," Puttannaiah said while speaking to media after emerging out of the meeting with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Thursday. According to Puttannaiah, Yeddyurappa kept on referring to the Supreme Court judgement which has ruled in favour of the project promoter but was told by the representatives of farmers' organisation that the apex court need to be told about the inaction on the part of NICE company in not laying the road. "It is necessary that the Law Department and officials are briefed properly so as to argue before the judiciary effectively. It appears that the officials are in connivance with NICE company," the KRRS leader added.
