Denmark captured its first gold of the London Olympic.

London: Denmark captured its first gold of the Olympic rowing regatta by winning a close lightweight men's double sculls final that had to be restarted after the seat of one of the British crew came off its hinges.

Mads Rasmussen and Rasmus Quist edged the British team of Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter by a quarter-length in a time of 6 minutes 31.17 seconds. New Zealand won bronze.

After causing the restart because of Purchase's equipment failure, Britain began the restarted race strongly but was overtaken in the final 50 meters.

Rasmussen and Quist returned to form at the London Games after three lean years following their bronze medal at the Beijing Games in 2008. They were world champions in 2006 and 2007.
