KOZHIKODE: The Special Investigation Team on Tuesday arrested one more person in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case. Afsal, 32, of Kuttiyil Veedu, Koyilandy Valappu, Vadakara, was nabbed for assisting Purathakkayil Jabir, 35, who was earlier arrested on charges of securing SIM cards from service providers by forging documents and submitting fake addresses. Investigators said Afsal, who has close connections with Nizar and Jabir arrested earlier in the case, handed over the SIM card to Jabir. He used to procure SIM cards from service providers by forging documents and submitting fake addresses and sell these SIM cards for `350 and a bottle of liquor. Afsal was also an accused in a case registered at Edachery police station in 2011 for pledging fake gold ornaments at a financial institution in Vadakara. He was arrested by a police team led by Chombala SI J E Jayan from the rented house where he was staying at Makkol Peedika near Vadakara. With the arrest of Afsal, the number of persons arrested in the case has risen to 21. He was arrested under Sections 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of Indian Penal Code and was produced before Vadakara First Class Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday. He was remanded for two days in police custody. Meanwhile, three accused including CPM Thalassery Area Committee member P P Ramakrishnan, hailing from Choodikotta in Mahe, Abhinesh alias Abhi, 28, of Moozhikkara in Kodiyeri and P Ajesh alias Kajur Ajesh, 30, of Panthakkal, were produced before the Vadakara First Class Judicial Magistrate Court and remanded to police custody till May 31.
