HYDERABAD: All the opposition parties, including the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen, stalled the proceedings of the Assembly on Tuesday, preventing the House from transacting any business for the fifth consecutive day. With no option left, speaker Nadendla Manohar adjourned the House for the day as the determined opposition parties led by the Telugu Desam, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, MIM, BJP and Left parties did not allow the House to run and on the other hand state government maintained a complete silence on their demands. The trouble started immediately after the speaker rejected the notices given by four parties, including the TRS, to move adjournment motions demanding adoption of a resolution on Telangana.Immediately after that, the TRS and TDP members staged a dharna near the speaker’s podium, the TDP demanding a debate on liquor syndicates. The speaker adjourned the House and convened a Business Advisory Committee meeting. He found some headway with the TDP assuring to cooperate in the smooth functioning of the House if a debate on liquor syndicates was taken up on Friday. The MIM wanted withdrawal of the cases registered against Muslims in the old city of Hyderabad. The speaker directed the home minister to hold a meeting with MIM MLAs on February 24 and share with them all the information and action taken by the government. On withdrawal of cases registered against students who participated in the separate Telangana and united Andhra agitations, she said the government was on the job and doing it in a phased manner. She promised to place all the details in the House. When the House assembled again at 12.40 pm after the BAC meeting, TRS and MIM members rushed to the podium. The TRS made it clear that it would not let the House run till a resolution seeking creation of Telangana state was moved.
