HYDERABAD:  The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials on Friday detained a passenger who was carrying Rs 45.57 lakh fake currency at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA).According to DRI officials, the passenger arrived in the airport by Emirates flight EK 524 (Dubai-Hyderabad). The DRI officials detained him when examination of his baggage revealed that he was in possession of high-quality fake Indian currency in the denomination of Rs 1000 and Rs 500.Choudhary, additional director, DRI, Hyderabad unit, said they seized 2,500 Rs 1,000 notes and 4,114 notes of Rs 500 denomination from the passenger.The accused also made trips to Dubai for the same purpose. The passenger concealed the fake notes in the false bottom created in his bags. To avoid detection during screening, the notes were not kept as bundles but were spread as a layer. The smuggled notes have been seized under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962 .
