PUDUCHERRY: The government will examine the pattern of employment of Group D in Tamil Nadu  as an alternative to outsourcing the services, said Chief minister N Rangasamy on Saturday.Replying to a question by AIADMK floor leader A Anbazhagan, he clarified that  no Group D government posts had been converted into a  contract post at any of the  hospitals under the Department of Health and Family Welfare. He said the government had sanctioned Rs 26,62,360 per month for the execution of six different types of works that include electrical, plumbing, security, laundry, gardening, landscaping and sanitary work at the Rajiv Gandhi Women and Children Hospital on contract basis. He added that the annual expenditure worked out to Rs 3,19,48,330 and 267 persons had been working on contract basis at the hospital.Anbazhagan said that engaging workers on contract for government job deprived them of job security. Besides local youth were affected as the contractors recruited workers from other states. There is no reservation policy, said Anbazhagan. When Chief Minister cited the outsourcing of Group D services as per the recommendations of VI pay commission, Anbazhaghan said that Tamil Nadu Chief minister J Jayalalithaa had written to Central Government, obtained permission and was directly employing Group D staff. The Rangasamy assured that he would examine the feasibility of this system for Puducherry. AINRC MLA T Thiagrajan, however, said the government should compare the expenses of engaging workers on contract basis vis-a-vis government recruitment. However, Anbazhagan said that expenses should not be the only criteria.Congress MLA E Valsaraj said there were no new GroupD posts as it had been abolished by the Centre.
