Islamabad: Senior Pakistan People's Party leader Qamar Zaman Kaira on Wednesday replaced Firdous Ashiq Awan as the Information Minister as 13 lawmakers who were recently inducted into the council of ministers were allocated portfolios.
Kaira, a close confidant of President Asif Ali Zardari, had done a stint earlier as Information Minister before being removed in a reshuffle in 2011.
He was among five Cabinet ministers who were given their portfolios on Wednesday.
The other ministers were Raja Pervez Ashraf (Information Technology), Nazar Muhammad Gondal (Capital Administration and Development), Rana Muhammad Farooq Saeed Khan (Climate Change), and Maula Bux Chandio (Political Affairs).
The eight ministers of state who were given their new portfolios included Malik Ammad Khan (Foreign Affairs), Muhammad Moazzam Ali Jatoi (National Food Security and Research), Malik Azmat Khan (Inter-Provincial Coordination), Tasneem Qureshi (Water and Power), Raheela Baloch (Science and Technology), Dost Muhammad Mazari (Communications), Sardar Saleem Haider (Defence) and Abbas Khan Afridi (Commerce).
The new ministers called on Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who said the government would continue to work for democracy, rule of law and upholding the Constitution to bring about political stability on a durable basis.
