Ramallah (Palestine): President Pranab Mukherjee created history after he crossed into Palestine from Israel on Monday afternoon. The President who is on a five-day state visit to Jordan, Palestine and Israel landed in Tel Aviv from Jordanian capital of Amman.
Since the airport at Ramallah is not fit for flight operations, Pranab Mukherjee had to travel to Ramallah by road from Tel Aviv. Ramallah is the capital of Palestine and it is in the West Bank.
The presidential convoy crossed into Palestine controlled territory on the West Bank side. After India established full pledged diplomatic relationship with Israel in early 1990s, for the first time a head of state from India is visiting Israel and Palestine.
After meeting the Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, the President will return to Israel by road. He will be meeting the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Nethanyahu and Israeli President on Tuesday.
