HYDERABAD: A pleasant shower late on Friday afternoon gave people some respite from the scorching heat. The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre said 2.7 mm rainfall was recorded. “The reason for the thunderstorm activity on Friday is the upper air trough flowing from Vidarbha to South Tamil Nadu across Telangana,” said RV Subba Rao, assistant meteorologist at the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre. The maximum and minimum temperatures, however, didn't change much and hovered around 40.1 and 25.5 degree celsius.Terming the rain, 'fortunate showers', S Venkateswara Rao, assistant meteorologist at Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, said, “the thunderstorm activities will continue till the onset of monsoon and to some extent, will control the temperature but the hot weather will prevail. He predicted that the mercury will shoot up to 44 degree celsius before May 20 as the dry weather will prevail and radiation from the Sun is at its peak. But for the most part, the temperature will fluctuate between 25-40.The night temperature is also expected to cool down by a couple of degrees owing to the evening showers and cool breeze flowing across the region. The Met officials also confirmed that the minimum temperature recorded on Friday was not the lowest this season as on May 3, the minimum recorded was 24 degree celsius.
