BHUBANESWAR : Large parts of the State were lashed by incessant rain even as a low pressure area was formed over the Gangetic West Bengal close to the north Orissa border.
The weather office said more rains are in the offing during the next two days. Under the impact of the system, rainfall was recorded across the State. The showers brought a sigh of relief to western Orissa which witnessed a prolonged dry spell. The weather report stated that Balasore recorded the highest rainfall of 31 mm, while Sonepur received 26 mm on the day.

Till last week, Bargarh, Balangir, Boudh, Malkangiri and Nuapada had recorded a highly deficient rainfall, the deviation estimated at 50 per cent below normal and more while Angul, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Koraput and Sonepur reported a deficiency ranging between 30 and 50 per cent.

The overall deviation in rainfall for the whole State was standing at about 35 per cent but the incessant showers could well change the scenario, thanks to the low pressure.

The weather office forecast gales and advised fishermen not to venture into the sea which will be rough. However, there was no flood threat.
