Rains force closure of 10 bridges in Belgaum

BELGAUM: As another spell of rains commenced in the district and South Maharashtra, ten bridges in the region were closed again for traffic from Friday.These bridges were earlier closed for traffic and reopened following respite in rainfall about two weeks ago. The bridges closed again for traffic include Old Khanapur bridge, Khanapur-Asoga, Konnur-Dupadal, Kallol-Yaddur, Sadalaga-Janawad, Sidnal-Akkol, Malikwadi-Dattawad, Jatrat-Bhivati, Karadaga-Boj and Boj-Hunnaragi. However, alternative arrangements have been maded for smooth traffic movement through other service roads, sources said.Maharashtra released 1.10 lakh cusecs of water, including 63,257 cusecs from Rajapur and 31,386 cusecs from Rajaram barrages and 2,111 cusecs from Koyna reservoir on Thursday.As many as 48 in Belgaum 36 houses in Khanapur collapsed due to rains in the district since June 1.
