New Delhi: With less then a month left to go for the Commonwealth Games, the rains could pose a huge problem for the Games.
The Capital has had record monsoon rains this time, much higher than during the same period in previous years. Several drains have overflowed because of the excessive rainfall. Many roads have been severely damaged, fuelling fears that the deadline for the city's infrastructure development would not be met in time for the Games in October. However, the worries mount as the Met dept has predicted more rains for October.
And heavy rains have been blamed for the breakdown of infrastructure in the city, but there is more bad news coming in for the CWG as BP Yadav, Director of the Indian Met Dept says that there are chances of rainfall in the first half of October, which is when the Games are scheduled.
BP Yadav, Director, Indian Meteorological Department said, "As far as the question of Commonwealth Games is concerned, many times in the first half of October especially, in the first half of October, if we consider the data of last 100 years, there are possibilities of rainfall in October.
But the conditions are favourable that at least the rains will continue in September. And there are no symptoms of early monsoon withdrawal. Thus, we can clearly predict are that there are no signs of early withdrawal of monsoon."
