Chennai: Stating that Rajinikanth had an "imbalance in his system", the superstar’s wife Latha, on Thursday, reiterated that the actor’s vital organs were in good shape and that he was fine. Eminent cardiologist Dr Thanickachalam, who is in charge of Rajini at the hospital, clarified that the actor had no major ailment and would be moved from the ICU to a normal ward soon. Rajini would have spent a week in hospital on Friday.
Rajinikanth had undergone hemodialysis and ultrafiltration and his lab parameters were improving, said an official release on Thursday.
"But dialysis does not imply that he is suffering from kidney failure," said Latha Rajinikanth, who explained that the actor had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit only to prevent infection. He had an infection in his lungs and a gastrointestinal disorder, she said. "Please understand that Rajini also has a body and is prone to infections like everybody else," Latha said, as she thanked the superstar’s fans for their prayers and support. Resuming the actor’s new film Rana was not a priority at the moment and there was no need for him to go abroad for treatment, she clarified.
Dr Thanikachalam said the actor was very cheerful on Thursday and was cracking jokes. He ate a meal of idlis, vada and homemade rasam, the cardiologist said.
"When (he will be shifted to a normal ward) depends on how soon he becomes alright,” he said, adding that the actor had been brought to hospital at the right time. The doctor, however, refused to state which organs of the actor had been affected, citing professional ethics.
Rajinikanth’s son-in-law, actor Dhanush, asked fans to not believe rumours being spread about the actor’s health.
All Izz Well, says Vijaykanth
DMDK leader and MLA Vijaykanth on Thursday afternoon told the media that actor Rajinikanth was fine and there was no reason to worry. Meeting press persons after his visit to the hospital to meet the superstar, the actor-turned-politician said, "As Rajini was sleeping, I conveyed my wishes to his wife Latha and Dr Thanikachalam. The actor is doing well."
