HYDERABAD: The mass resignations of Telangana MLAs might not immediately lead to a Constitutional crisis, unless political wisdom prevails on the Congress leadership to take a decision on Telangana, experts have said. The immediate fallout of the resignations is it might affect governance in the state and lead to a political crisis.Since MLAs submitting their resignations was an act of bringing pressure on the Centre to carve out a separate Telangana, the Speaker may not accept their resignations. “The Speaker is likely to call each MLA and take their opinion,” said Nalsar University professor Madabhushi Sridhar Acharyulu. He added it was prerogative of the Speaker whether to accept resignations or not.“First, the resignations are not intended to relinquish membership of the legislative House. Resignations are intended to increase the pressure on the Centre to concede their demand for separate state,” Sridhar said. “It might lead to political crisis first and not a Constitutional crisis,” Sridhar said. If the Central government did not decide on the political demand, it might then lead to a Constitutional crisis, he said. Advocate and PRP leader C Ramachandraiah opined that the mass resignations may not lead to a Constitutional crisis. “The government may go for by-elections. But, one-third MLAs resigning was not good in interest of the democracy,” he said.
