THOOTHUKUDI : Red sanders worth `1.12 crore, meant to be smuggled to Dubai were seized here on Friday. Three persons were arrested and two lorries were also seized.
C Rajan, Additional Director General, DRI, Chennai, said that the red sanders were about to be exported under the guise of granite slabs through the VOC Port. Based on a tipoff, DRI officials launched a vehicle check and spotted two lorries carrying two containers at the toll gate on Thursday. As the occupants, Sebastin (33), a previous offender, Tamil Arasan (32) and Rafiq Basha (32), of Chennai could not provide a proper reply about the consignment, they were detained. Papers they were carrying said that 284 sqm of slabs were being exported by M/S Prism Granites Madurai to M/S Figaro Building Materials trading company, Dubai. They said it belonged to Chitti Raja and Ravi of Chennai. ENS
