Montreal: Sania Mirza's was knocked out of the $1.34 million WTA Rogers Cup hardcourt tennis tournament in Montreal on Monday.
The Indian lost to Italy's Alberta Brianti 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in a first-round match of the US Open tune-up event.
Brianti secured the passage to the second-round and will meet Slovenian 14th seed Katarina Srebotnik, who ousted Dutch standout Michaella Krajicek 6-3, 7-5.
Nathalie Dechy of France rallied to reach the second round, outlasting Israeli qualifier Tzipora Obziler 6-7 (3/7), 6-2, 6-1.
Dechy will next face Russian 15th seed Maria Kirilenko, who beat Croatian Jelena Kostanic 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
Swiss seventh seed Martina Hingis who had a bye in the first round will face Italy's Mara Santangelo, who rallied to eliminate Austrian Sybille Bammer 6-7 (2/7), 6-4, 6-2.
