BELGAUM: Following intelligence reports that terrorists may hijack planes from peripheral airports to target Mumbai, police beefed up security at Sambra Airport here.Superintendent of police Sandeep Patil inspected the security arrangements at the airport and deployed 30 police personnel who have been trained to handle emergencies, to the airport. There is another platoon of security personnel and a dog squad to avert disruptive activities.The Police Department has also identified another 150 police personnel, fit to work during  emergencies, and will give them training soon, according to sources. The height of the fence around the airport will be raised, close circuit TV (CCTV) cameras installed and a few towers with searchlights constructed in the airport.According to the intelligence department, terrorists are planning to hijack a domestic plane from a periphiral airport such as Hubli to target the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai.
