New Delhi: Welfare and security of Indians abroad must be the top priority of Indian missions, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday told over 120 Indian envoys posted across the globe.
In her address at the annual meeting of the Heads of Missions (HoM), Swaraj said ensuring welfare of the diaspora community has been a major focus area of the government and the missions must work towards it.
"The welfare and security of Indians abroad must be your first priority. EAM @SushmaSwaraj tells Heads of Mission in her address," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.
In his address, Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh said the gathering was an excellent opportunity to think collectively about foreign policy objectives.
The annual gathering of the Heads of Missions began on Friday and will continue till May 31.
During the course of the annual gathering, issues various issues relating to foreign policy, government's flagship programmes and India's economic and trade relations with various countries are likely to be deliberated.
