MYSORE: As pressure mounts on Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa to resign after media reports of the Lokayukta indicting him in the illegal mining case, Veerashaiva mutts that stood by Yeddyurappa in times of crisis are closely monitoring the developments.Mutts and the Veerashaiva Mahasabha had opposed the ouster of Yeddyurappa by the BJP high command following a series of corruption charges levelled by former CM HD Kumaraswamy.JSS mutt seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji wants the CM to speak to the public on the Lokayukta report. The Swamiji said that the truth would come out in the illegal mining case after the final report is placed. He said that both the ruling and Opposition parties should respect the views of the people. When asked about former Union minister Basavaraj Patil Yatnal targeting JSS mutt for being spokespersons of Yeddyurappa, he termed it unfortunate that Yatnal had failed to understand the resolution passed by the Veerashaiva Mahasabha.Clarifying that the mutt has nothing to do with the Mahasabha, he said that the Veerashaiva conclave was only held at Suttur mutt. The resolution stated that the Mahasabha will come to the support of an individual or community in crisis and not Yeddyurappa alone. I hope Yatnal understands the resolution passed by the Mahasabha in future, he added.Swamiji maintained that the seers had advised the CM whenever he made a mistake. This does not mean that the mutts that have advised successive governments on various occasions are not supportive or that they stood by Yeddyurappa’s leadership. When his reaction was sought on the Bhagwad Gita Abhiyan in schools, he maintained that the values in the Gita should be taught to children without the agenda of promoting Hinduism.Sallur mutt seer Guru Swamiji said that neither the mutts, PM or the CM are above the law.
