THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the national seminar Lattitude 14˚5’ 12” on ‘Black Swan Management’ organised by Institute of Management Kerala, Varkala, at Mascot Hotel on Monday at 9 am. Labour Minister Shibu Baby John will deliver the keynote address. The occasion will witness the release of the souvenir ‘Cynosure 12”. The seminar will focus on training management graduates in handling event known in management parlance as ‘black swans’. They are identified as occurrences or events that have low probability but can cause massive consequences. Following the inauguration, there will be technical sessions led by experts. At 10.30 am, a session on black swan events in the financial sector will be taken by Thomas Issac, former finance minister of Kerala. A session on black swan events and development from the disaster management perspective would be presented by Thara K G, director, disaster management centre, government of Kerala at 11.30 am. The last session is on the role of media in black swan management which will be led by Suresh Narayanan, technical head, Asianet. The experience sharing session is from 2 pm to 2.45 pm. The valedictory function at 2.45 pm will be inaugurated by R Venkitapathy, professor and director, Bharatiar School of Management Studies, Bharatiar University, Coimbatore. J Rajan, professor and head, Institute of Management, Kerala, will distribute the certificates. Playback singer M G Sreekumar will deliver felicitation speech. He will also handover financial aid for RCC to Dr P T Latha, Assistant Professor and Welfare Officer RCCM, on the occasion.
